Railbelt Reliability Council (RRC)

Standards

One of the RRC’s primary purposes is to develop and enforce standards across the Railbelt region. Technical Advisory Council (TAC) members and subject matter experts use their knowledge of the islanded Railbelt grid’s unique challenges—along with stakeholder input—to create specialized reliability, operating, security, and other standards.

The TAC is leading the development of these standards, supported by an established working group.

Definition of Standard Terms Working Group

On May 6, 2024, the RRC Board of Directors (Board) issued a Directive to the CTO to develop reliability standards. In response to this directive, standards have been developed and many of those standards have been approved by the Board. Standards are written to include many defined terms; however, these terms have not yet been recommended for Board approval to file with the RCA. A Working Group will be established to develop definition of terms used in reliability standards.

Planning Resource Adequacy Analysis, Assessment and Documentation

Status Status Color Status Description
Upcoming The standard is anticipated to be developed by the Technical Advisory Council (TAC) and will have a working group established.
In Progress The standard is under active development by the TAC and has a related working group established.
Board Approved The standard has been approved by the RRC Board, but has not yet been filed with the RCA.
RCA Review The standard has been adopted by the RRC Board and filed with the RCA for approval but have not yet been approved by the RCA.
Pending Enforcement The standard has been approved by the RCA but is not yet enforceable.
Enforceable The standard is enforceable by the RRC.
Inactive The standard is no longer active or enforceable.

AK Railbelt Voluntary Consensus Standards

In 2018, the Railbelt utilities voluntarily adopted a set of jointly developed reliability standards. While not the RRC’s official standards, these often serve as the foundation for RRC standards development.
